Hi, I’m Corinna Sage.
I’m a Christian, wife, and second-generation homeschooling mom of four wonderful kids. Over the last 15 years, I’ve had some amazing opportunities in working with children, from working for a top children’s entertainment company to teaching children of all kinds of backgrounds and abilities. I graduated from LSU with a bachelors degree in elementary & special education and spent 2 years as a 2nd grade special ed & STEM teacher at a leading elementary school in Louisiana. After getting married & deciding to stay home with my daughter, I taught virtual ESL classes, a toddler class at an early learning center, and kindergarten at a private school. I also offered private tutoring sessions.
As I taught in these different settings, I learned so much about how kids learn, what works and what doesn’t. Homeschooling always held a special place in my heart — not only as an academic practice, but as a lifestyle. When the time came to begin giving my own children formal lessons in reading, writing, and arithmetic, I pieced together a custom curriculum that met their needs, and realized how many parents would probably love to do the same but just don’t know how!
That’s why I started St. Emmelia — to offer parents and their children a warm & welcoming atmosphere where learning is not a chore but a lifestyle. My teaching style is a blend of some philosophies you may have heard of: Waldorf, Charlotte Mason, Montessori, and Classical. Pulling the best elements from these methods, I’ve created a program that I hope is gentle yet challenging, playful yet intentional, relaxed yet developmentally appropriate.
If children do not want to learn, not even the best of teachers will be able to teach them. My hope is that St. Emmelia will be a place where children can develop a lifelong love of learning, while being seen and nurtured holistically, as a whole person.
In His hands,
Corinna
My Teaching Methods
Waldorf
Natural materials, songs, working alongside the student (relationship-based learning), seasonal rhythms
Montessori
Learning by doing, natural hild-sized materials, games and puzzles as the child’s very important “work”
Early learners learn best through play and by actually doing, and I intend to make sure that my students do! Whether it be through carefully chosen toys & games or other hands-on experiences, I love creating lessons that can be tailored to your child’s unique needs. Here’s a few philosophies that you’ll find working themselves out in your child’s classes:
Charlotte Mason
Habit training, living books, narration, no “twaddle,” nature study, art & music appreciation
Classical
Poll-parrot stage up to age 7 (emphasis on memorization), Greek and Latin, art & music appreciation, classic fables and literature
